Medical Outreach to China's Orphanages
and Foster Homes

In 2004, UFCH adopted an orphanage in rural Henan Province. When we first started working with the orphanage, the children there received no medical care and did not have enough to eat or heat in the winter months. Since the start of our cooperation, UFCH has provided the orphanage's staff with care giver training to better care for the children, especially those with special medical needs; ongoing medical treatment through the donated services of physicians and nurses from United Family Healthcare (UFH); and routine hospital treatment that we pay for at a local Henan hospital. For medical treatment that cannot be received locally in Henan, UFCH coordinates medical treatment either through UFH, local hospitals, or overseas medical assistance when the treatment is not available in China.

Since UFCH's inception, we have also supported Beijing and Shanghai's extensive network of Healing Homes. Due to the large number of orphans with special medical needs, the children in these homes often have limited access to quality medical care. UFCH coordinates with the Healing Home to help provide their children treatment through a UFCH facility, local Chinese hospitals, or overseas medical assistance when the treatment is not available in China.

Nutrition Program

At our adopted orphanage in Henan, we also administer Abbott Laboratories' generous donation of high quality milk formula to infants up to two years old. We support this program through regular onsite training on formula preparation, sanitation, and nutritious food selection/preparation. UFCH also performs quarterly weigh and measure trips to the orphanage to ensure the children are prospering. From the data that we have collected from these quarterly trips over the past few years, we definitively know that the children there are no longer malnourished and that the good nutrition has help stem other illnesses and medical issues that were prevalent before.

Special Projects

Throughout the year, UFCH helps to collect donations of new bottles – regular or cleft lip/palate, gently used blankets, clothes, children's toys or other articles that we can distribute to either a Healing Home or an Orphanage who can put them to good use.
